ORCIA ROSSO D.O.C. 2009
(Wine Experts: Maurizio Castelli, Mery Ferrara)
Grapes: selection of Sangiovese (95%) and Merlot (5%) exclusively from the estate vineyards.
Vinification: carbonic pre-maceration at 10°C for three days, inoculation of selected yeasts and fermentation in steel vats of 150 hectoliters; maceration with the skins for 25 days.
Ageing: in second-hand barriques for 10 months.
Refining in bottle: 4 months.
Alcohol: 13% Vol.
Serving temperature: 20°C.
Characteristics: bright red colour with dark purple nuances; intense, clean and fruity with distinct notes of red berry fruit (cherries in alcohol) and a hint of spice; very broad, smooth and mellow on the palate; round and well balanced with a long finish.
To be served with: owing to its characteristics, this is a perfect everyday wine; it goes well with a range of dishes, from pasta with sauce, to eggs, white meat, game, fresh and mature cheese.
